As a result, Twitchell was dubbed “The Dexter Killer,” and Atlinger was his first victim.

Johnny Altinger’s murder case has been once again reopened by CBS 48 Hours through the episode “The Dexter Killer.” The episode is set to air on Saturday, April 23 on CBS and is also streaming on Paramount+.

The victim Johnny Altinger had unknowingly chatted with Twitchell on the dating website Plenty of Fish.

He had set out to meet the woman on October 10, 2008, only to be met with death through Twitchell who had posed as a woman on the dating site.

Twitchell had lured Johnny into a “kill room” set up in the former’s garage-turned-film studio. There, Twitchell bludgeoned and stabbed him, cut him apart, partially burned him, and then dumped his remains in garbage bags into a storm sewer.

Case Of Johnny Altinger Murder By Dexter Killer Mark Twitchell

Johnny Altinger became the first and only casualty of the Dexter Killer Mark Twitchell’s serial killings.

Inspired by the Dexter series, filmmaker Twitchell had compiled a document “SKConfessions” which stood for “Serial Killer Confessions”.

He had planned and documented every bit of his brutality on Atlinger. Another document on Twitchell’s laptop was “A Profile of a Psychopath” which did not make its way into the evidence file for the jury during his trial.

Twitchell was convicted of first-degree murder for the death of Altinger on April 12, 2011. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
