Charith Asalanka is a Sri Lankan professional cricketer who has represented his country in all 3 formats of the sport (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is), as a batting all-rounder. Before breaking into the senior national team in June 2021, he had captained Sri Lanka at the 2016 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup, where the team had finished in 4th place in the 16-team competition. In the Sri Lankan domestic circuit, he has played for the Galle Cricket Club (2014–2015) and the Sinhalese Sports Club (2016–2017) across all 3 formats. At the franchise level, he has turned out for the Jaffna Kings (formerly known as Jaffna Stallions) (LPL) (2020) and the Kandy Warriors (2021) in the LPL (Lanka Premier League). He was an integral member of the former team’s squad that had won the LPL title in the inaugural edition of the tournament in December 2020. A rare occurrence in modern cricket, Charith has also played domestic cricket outside of his home country representing Mohammedan Sporting Club (2016–2017) in Bangladesh.

- Charith had first come into the spotlight in the 2014-15 season when he was appointed the captain of the national under-19 team for their series against Australia and Bangladesh. In the 5-match limited-overs series against Bangladesh, he was Sri Lanka’s highest run-scorer, with 225 runs at an average of 45; and 2nd-highest wicket-taker, with 8 wickets.
- His first-class debut, in April 2015, was the match to decide which team should take the final place in the Premier Trophy (the main domestic first-class cricket competition in Sri Lanka) in the following season. His team, Galle Cricket Club, had been shot out for a paltry total of 31 runs in their 1st innings. Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club had responded with 215 runs. In their 2nd innings, Galle Cricket Club had again made a poor start and had lost their 1st wicket in the 2nd over. Charith, batting at number 3, had then smoked 114 runs off 123 balls, helping his team reach a total of 295 runs. He had then produced sterling bowling figures of 4/34 to help skittle out Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club for just 107 runs, helping his team win the do-or-die encounter by a mere 4 runs.
- At the 2016 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup, he had top-scored for Sri Lanka in the team’s first 2 group stage matches, 76 runs against Canada and 71 runs against Afghanistan. He was named the ‘Player of the Match’ in both those games. He had again top-scored for his team in their final match of the tournament, the 3rd-place playoff game against Bangladesh. However, this time, his effort went in vain as Bangladesh overhauled Sri Lanks’s total of 214 runs with 3 wickets in hand.
