CNN has suddenly shifted its tone on the illegal possession of classified documents. The network which spent day and night banging the drums of criminality and treason in regard to the documents held by Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago is suddenly in a far more forgiving mood now that Joe Biden is in the crosshairs.

As Redstate reported, the current president took multiple troves of classified documents following his vice presidency, with that only being revealed six years after the fact. Some of the materials were even found in Biden’s garage, a reality that he dismissed by snarking that they weren’t “sitting out on the street.”

Rest assured, though, that it’s all no big deal. According to CNN, this happens all the time, and the real problem is that too much information is over-classified.

Oh, okay. Glad we got that sorted out, but I sure don’t remember that kind of benefit of the doubt being given to Trump. On the contrary, CNN speculated that the former president had violated the Espionage Act. That was between the network reporting that Trump had possibly taken nuclear secrets, with plenty of on-air accusations that he was trying to sell them.

That was never confirmed (almost certainly because it wasn’t true), but the point is simple. CNN had no problem throwing Trump to the wolves and joining in the carnage themselves. Yet, when it comes to Biden, they send reporters out to whitewash what happened, making excuses about over-classification and claiming that taking classified documents is something that happens daily.

Of course, what’s missing in the segment with Kaitlan Collins is that Biden’s possession of classified information is clearly not just the result of someone accidentally leaving a briefing in their briefcase. That was the example the other reporter used, and it’s in no way comparable to the current president taking classified documents, moving them multiple times, storing them in his garage, and even putting some in his home office filing cabinet.

Lastly, addressing the idea of intent which was brought up in CNN’s on-air report, it is not required by the law. The statute clearly states that “gross negligence” is sufficient. And while taking a single document home by mistake likely wouldn’t earn the ire of the DOJ, taking dozens of documents, keeping them for six years, and spreading them around as if they are confetti should. That the documents Biden had were only “found” at the most politically convenient moment should also raise suspicions.

So what have we learned? We’ve learned that CNN will go to any extent to excuse a Democrat for the very things they lambast Republicans for. All that talk about a shifting culture and the network being less partisan was just talk. Heck, Jim Acosta is still employed, and that tells you everything you need to know
