A senior instructor at the prestigious Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst drowned in a stream on the base after drinking too much at a function on the Army base, a coroner has heard.
Colour Sergeant Alexander Street had been told to leave the party by an Army Captain who warned him he had drunk too much alcohol.
It was believed he was making his way to his married quarters at the RMA when he fell into the stream. His body was found submerged by a police search team the next day.
Colour Sergeant instructor Street was reported missing the day after he attended the on-site party in February this year, an opening inquest was told.

The 31-year-old soldier, who had been posted to the RMA from the Irish Guards and previously had served in Afghanistan, was found submerged in the stream on the Army campus after he was advised to sleep off the alcohol by his Captain.
Assistant Berkshire coroner Alison McCormick said during the opening of the inquest into his death at Reading Coroner’s Court: ‘Alexander Street was born on February 28, 1990, and passed away on February 6, 2022 at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, Berkshire.

‘The circumstances surrounding the death are that Alex was a Colour Sergeant instructor and lived in the married quarters with his wife Juliana. On February 4 this year, Alex attended a function at the main clock tower building.
‘He was advised to leave the function by a Captain due to the level of his intoxication at around 2am the following day – February 5. He saw him leave and he was seen heading to his home in the Royal Military Academy grounds.
‘Juliana woke up at around 4am and noted that Alex had not returned and later that morning she realised he had still not returned. An informal search took place and later his absence was noted and a report was made to the police.

‘Various inquiries to locate Alex – his last known location was around 23sqm of the academy. At 17.10 the police found him submerged below the water in Churchill House stream.
‘His body was pulled from the water on February 6. However, no life-saving opportunities were available. His identification was verified by Search and Rescue teams.
‘An officer attended the scene and found Alex clothed, bar his trouser fly open and police concluded there was no sign of any third party involvement.’
A pathologist’s post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as drowning due to disorientation due to the level of ethanol in the blood.
The assistant coroner then adjourned the inquest until February 21, next year to allow the Army – which is undertaking an inquiry – to conclude.
