DAVID Bowie could soon be back playing on stage — as a hologram.

The Heroes singer’s name has been formally trademarked under a classification which includes avatars.

It comes 18 months after it was revealed a virtual reality version of Bowie — who died in 2016 — was being developed.

His fans will be hoping to see him brought to life, like the massively popular ABBA Voyage concerts in East London.

A source said: “Avatar shows are big business and ABBA’s groundbreaking show has proved there is a huge demand.

“Getting David on stage again in the form of a hologram would be huge.”

The trademark, from a firm affiliated with his estate, “means the team can forge ahead with plans”, the source added.

Bowie, who died aged 69 from liver cancer, sold more than 100 million records over a career spanning six decades.

In May, The Sun revealed how American rock band KISS were in talks for their own hologram show.

Guitarist Tommy Thayer confirmed they had been offered a deal and were working out where to base it.

Tommy, 63, said: “A show like this needs a theatre which is built specifically for the show, so we have to decide where it’s going to be.

“And there’s considerations about New York, Singapore, Dubai, London of course, but Las Vegas as well is a strong contender.”
