Davon Godchaux Facts
- His name is pronounced as Duh-von God-chow.
- During his stint at Plaquemine Senior High School, he was an All-State defensive lineman. In his junior season (2012), he had accumulated 60 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, and 4.5 sacks which had earned him first-team All-State honors for Class 4A.
- In the season opener of his high school senior year, he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament which had forced him out of the rest of the season. Despite this, he was honored as a U.S. Army All-American and had attended the bowl game.
- After his high school graduation, he had chosen to join the Louisiana State University so that he could be closer to home to tend to his ailing mother. He had declined football scholarship offers from multiple universities including the University of Mississippi, Auburn University, and the University of California, Los Angeles.
- At the Louisiana State University, he had started 26 games in 3 seasons. He had taken over as a starter just 3 games into his true freshman season in 2014. He had served as a rotating player at the defensive end in his team’s 3–4 defense formation.
- He had declared for the 2017 NFL Draft, the day after the 2016 Citrus Bowl, the 71st edition of the Citrus Bowl, an annual college football bowl game played at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
- He had pulled a hamstring during that year’s NFL Combine (a week-long showcase where college football players perform physical and mental tests in front of NFL coaches, general managers, and scouts) and could not complete all his drills. He was, however, drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 5th round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
- His hometown of Plaquemine had honored him in 2017 by celebrating May 9th as ‘Davon Godchaux Day’.
- The Miami Dolphins had placed him on its reserve/COVID-19 list in August 2020 and he was activated from the list 2 days later. He was placed on the team’s injured reserve list in October 2020. He had signed a 2-year contract with the New England Patriots in March 2021.
- In June 2021, his high school had retired the number ‘7’ from its roster, the jersey number Davon used to sport for them.
