When John D’Eri learned his son, Andrew, had autism, he knew he wanted to do something to give his son purpose in life.
According to NationSwell, John said: “I don’t want him to sit in a room being taken care of by others once I’m gone. I want him to have a life. I want him to have a job. I want him to have friends that are like him.”
Some people with autism can’t hold a regular job, but that doesn’t mean they’re not hard-working or capable. They can still find purpose in life, they just need a boss and job with the right attitude, structure, and acceptance – and that’s exactly what John provides.
Since John couldn’t find Andrew a job, he decided to open an entire business dedicated to helping Andrew and other people with autism. The family ended up settling on a car wash and they hire people with autism.

The car wash is in Parkland, Florida, and it’s run by John and one of his sons, Tom.
As Tom explains in the video below, he views autism as a benefit to the business because people on the spectrum tend to be great at repetitive, structured tasks, attention to detail, and following processes.
Those skills translate perfectly to the car wash business, and the jobs provide people with autism a sense of purpose and a way to make money and meet friends. It’s a win-win situation, if you ask us!
