Dinesh Bana Facts

  1. He was a part of India’s squad for the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup but did not break into the playing XI of any of the 5 matches in that tournament as the team management had preferred to play Aaradhya Yadav in the wicketkeeping position.
  2. However, as Aaradhya’s performances in the last few matches of the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup were not up to the mark, Dinesh had been preferred over him for selection for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
  3. In India’s last group stage match of the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, against Uganda, he had come into bat with India already having amassed a score of 335-4 in 43.1 overs. He played a quickfire cameo, scoring 22 runs off 14 balls including a four and a six, helping India reach 383 runs by the time he was dismissed in the 48th over. India eventually scored 405/5 in 50 overs in that match and had defeated Uganda by 326 runs. This was the second-biggest victory margin in the history of Youth ODIs.
  4. In the semi-final match, he walked to the crease with India’s score a promising, but not yet dominant 259/5 in 48.5 overs. He promptly smacked the first ball that he faced, the last ball of the 49th over for 4. He then got to face the last 3 balls of the 50th and final over and dispatched them for 6, 4, 6. His adrenalin-filled 4-ball cameo (20 runs at a strike rate of 500) had helped India add 31 runs off the last 7 balls of the innings, finishing at 290/5 which ended up in a 96-run victory.
  5. In the final of the tournament, against England, he had arrived at the crease with India’s score at 176/6 in 46.2 overs, the target of 190 runs within touching distance. He had hit the 3rd and 4th balls of the next over for sixes to help India cross the line in a famous win.
