Dublin: David Sharkey Murder – What Happened?
Stephen Penrose stabbed David Sharkey to death on 17 May 2009.
Gardai found the dead body in the boot of the car. After the incident, State Pathologist Marie Cassidy carried out the post mortem at James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown, Dublin. It unveiled some serious injury to the victim’s hand, suggesting torture over drugs.
After murdering David, Stephen fleed the scene. However, law enforcement eventually captured him.
As for the sentence, the Central Criminal Court jury in May 2010 found the killer not guilty of murder but guilty of the manslaughter of David at Park View, Blackcastle. The defendant confessed that he had intentions to steal heroin from David, but things went south, insinuating a struggle that resulted in 13 stabbings.
Justice Carney gave him the sentence of nine years imprisonment.

Case Update: Where Is Stephen Penrose Now?
Stephen Penrose, who murdered David Sharkey, is currently in prison.
The jury found him guilty of the gruesome murder of Phillip Finnegan on 10 August 2016. He abducted his friend and eventually killed, cut him up, and attempted to burn the body before dumping it in a shallow grave, Rahin Woods, Co Kildare.
A man walking out his dog found the dead body of the missing guy. The investigators confirmed the identity of the murderer with the fingerprint. The recovery of the criminal’s skin from the soil of the burial site became the key evidence.
For that homicide incident, on 13 December 2021, the jury sentenced the convict to life imprisonment.

As for David Sharkey’s wife, the identity remains unknown.
However, we know a few things about his family. His brother met the same fate as him six years before his murder. His mother, Ann, shared the saddening news during Stephen’s trial in 2010. Her son died of a knife wound.
