Although there are multiple health benefits to regular exercise, both physical and mental, many people are motivated to exercise by their appearance. Flatter stomachs, toned legs and a more slender physique in general are some of the end goals when it comes to working out.

Toning your arms is another desired result. This requires tightening up any loose skin and losing fat around the upper arm, to banish what are known as “bingo wings”.

While some people might be more genetically inclined to have larger upper arms, it is possible to see changes through targeted exercises. One fitness expert shared her routine for reducing her own “bat wings”.

Sharing a video on social media platform TikTok, fitness coach Petra Genco revealed four exercises to tackle “flabby arms”.

She said: “Tighten your bat wings with just four moves doing this home workout with no equipment.” These moves are for complete beginners, she said.

For the first exercise she recommended a chest press. This involves standing with your feet shoulder width apart. To start you hold your arms straight up above your head with your hands in a fist position.

You then bring them straight down with your elbows at a right angle and your fists in line with the top of your head. Petra then crunched both arms together in front of her face and brought them out again to repeat the exercise.

The next stage is arm circles. With your arms dead straight in front of you, you then make large circles at the same time around the side of your body.

Petra’s third exercise is rows. She stood with her legs bent and upper body positioned slightly forwards.

With her arms extended out in front of her she then pulled them back as if on a rowing machine and repeated the exercise.

To end she recommended tricep pulses. She stayed in the same position as for the rows but with her arms behind her back.

She then pushed them slightly back and forward in pulsing movements.
