A father has shared a photo and paid tribute to his 14-year-old daughter who was killed when a car veered off the road and hit her and another schoolgirl – as police arrest a man for drink driving.

Tehliegher, who was described as a ‘little angel’ who ‘enjoyed every second of life’, was killed when a driver in a black Vauxhall Astra hit both schoolgirls at the junction of Braunstone Lane and Mortimer Way, in Leicester, shortly after 11am on Wednesday.

The other girl, also aged 14, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening or life-changing.

A 37-year-old man has since been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and of driving with an alcohol level above the legal limit.

Tehliegher’s father Shane Patterson said: ‘Yesterday, 26.10.2022. Our beautiful Tehleigher was taken from us at the age of Just 14.

‘During a tragic incident that took place in Braunstone, the life of this little angel was taken.

‘Tehliegher was the salt of the earth. Enjoyed every second of life. Being an amazing Sister and Daughter was everything to her. Her life was taken way too soon.

‘Her memory will forever be in the heart of all those who loved her and her family. We will miss you always Little T.

‘Words cannot describe the deep sadness the family are going through at this time. Anything you can do to help contribute towards giving this girl the best send off. Will be widely appreciated by the Family and Community.

‘Rest in Peace. Tehliegher. We love you always.’

Mr Patterson has set up a GoFundMe page to try and raise £4,500 to cover the costs of Tehliegher’s funeral.

The arrested man will remain in custody while police quiz him over the crash which police say several witnesses saw as they urge them to come forward.

Leicestershire Police confirmed that the car had left the road and collided with the two teenagers.

Another resident said: ‘I’ve been working all day, I didn’t know anything about it until my son told me when he got home from school.’

Another neighbour said: I just heard the helicopter.’

Detective Sergeant Lisa Wood, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: ‘While someone has been arrested in connection with this incident, I’d still like to speak to any witnesses who have not yet come forward.

‘From enquiries carried out so far, we know there were a number of people in the area at the time. I’d ask anyone living in Braunstone Lane with CCTV or doorbell cameras at their address to get in touch.

‘Likewise, I’m still keen to speak to anyone who saw the Astra prior to the collision occurring and any motorists with dashcams who have not yet spoken to police. Any information or footage you have, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could help.’
