Heartbroken Fearne Cotton paid tribute to ‘loyal and loving’ cat Lulu on Wednesday after the household pet passed away at her family home.
The TV presenter, 40, paid tribute to Lulu in a lengthy Instagram post, admitting the cat had seen her at ‘her best and her worst’ over the 20-years since its rescue from a local animal shelter.
Fearne, who has previously discussed her long-term battle with depression, accompanied the message with several images that appeared to affirm Lulu’s status as one of the family.

She wrote: ‘Yesterday I said goodbye to my best mate of twenty years. I’m heartbroken and still in shock that she’s gone.
‘I’m mostly just so grateful that I got twenty years with my darling Lula. She was the most loyal and loving creature ever.
‘Twenty years ago I picked up Lula and Keloy from the @themayhew animal home and took them back to my then little cottage in Harrow. Since then we’ve moved all around the place and they’ve stuck by me through thick and thin.’

She added: ‘Lula saw me at my best and worst and always without judgement. She brought unbelievable amounts of love into my life and for that I will be forever grateful. It feels like the end of an era as I literally can’t remember a time before she was in my world.

‘Old bird, I will never forget you and the love you gave me. I hope you know how loved you were. You’ll always be in my heart.’
Fearne recently admitted she made the decision to leave Radio 1 in 2015 for the sake of her mental health.

Speaking in an interview with Red magazine, she explained: ‘I had to walk away because it was literally ruining my mind.’
The mother-of-two also discussed her marriage to musician Jesse Wood – the son of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood – who she wed in 2014, admitting they are ‘more in love than ever’.
She said: ‘We’ve been together for more than 10 years now and we’re probably more in love than we’ve ever been. We’re in a good place – an ever-undulating but good place.’
