Finn Allen Facts

  1. Finn represented New Zealand at successive editions of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup (2016 and 2018). In New Zealand’s last group stage match of the 2016 edition of the tournament, he scored 97 runs off just 76 balls to help New Zealand beat Ireland by 4 wickets. He was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance.
  2. However, a shock defeat to Nepal in their opening group stage match, followed by a heavy defeat to India in the following match, meant that New Zealand could only compete for the bottom 8 places in the 16-team competition. In New Zealand’s last match of the tournament, an 11th-place playoff against South Africa, Finn top-scored for his team with 40 runs. South Africa, however, went on to win the match by a massive margin of 138 runs, consigning New Zealand to a rather disappointing 12th-place finish.
  3. He was included in New Zealand’s squad for the subsequent edition (2018) of the tournament as well. In the team’s opening group stage game, against the West Indies, Finn smoked 115 runs not out off just 100 balls to help New Zealand chase down a target of 234 runs in just 39.3 overs. He was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for this performance.
  4. In the very next match, against Kenya, he scored a half-century off just 19 balls. It was the then joint-second quickest half-century in the history of Youth ODIs. His knock was crucial in helping New Zealand put up a mammoth total of 436 runs and eventually win the match by 243 runs.
  5. In New Zealand’s last match of the tournament, a 7th-place playoff against England, Finn top-scored for his team with 87 runs. However, his effort was not enough to prevent a 32-run-defeat. He finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer for New Zealand, with 338 runs to his name.
  6. In the 2020–21 season of the Super Smash (the premier domestic T20 cricket competition in New Zealand), he was the leading run-scorer in the tournament – 512 runs at an astonishing strike rate (number of runs scored per 100 balls faced) of 194. His performance was of vital help in Wellington defending their Super Smash title.
  7. In July 2022, he scored his first century in T20I cricket. This made him just the 5th New Zealander male cricketer to have achieved this feat after Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, and Glenn Phillips.
