Carter came to prominence as Effie Herrington in Up In Saratoga at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre. She made her second appearance on the West Coast in a production of Biloxi Blues at the Pasadena Playhouse. Carter made her television debut in the CBS daytime serial series As the World Turns as Sierra Estaban Reyes Montgomery. From 1985 until 1988, she portrayed the part.
