While participating in the current episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls, English actress Florence Pugh disclosed that she had tracheomalacia, a rare respiratory medical ailment. On the show’s August 15th episode, the 26-year-old singer said that her family was forced to relocate to warm Spain from rainy England according to her doctor’s advice.

“We were in Spain because I have a respiratory problem, and when I was younger, they basically told me that a hotter environment would be better.” I have asthma and a condition known as tracheomalacia. So I’ve basically got a weird respiratory system from a young age.”

Tracheomalacia, according to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, implies

“Because the cartilage in the windpipe, or trachea, did not grow correctly or was destroyed, the tracheal walls are floppy or flaccid rather than stiff. The cartilage is unable to hold the windpipe open, making breathing difficult – particularly while exhaling (exhaling). Pressure from adjacent blood arteries may sometimes cause the trachea to collapse.”

“I’ve had this respiratory problem since I was a baby, so my mother has constantly had to be on the lookout for new infections, new illnesses that may possibly harm me.”

She went on to say that her mother had requested her to go to Los Angeles to avoid getting the new coronavirus. Pugh informed the journalist that her illness has improved over the years since she does not get sick as often as she did as a youngster. However, the Little Women actress said in a 2020 interview with Vogue that she still has a “really terrifying cough” after having overcome the initial diagnosis of her disease.
