There isn’t one single test for dementia, but a GP can do a combination of assessments and refer people to a specialist memory clinic.

This may include discussing any present symptoms, any pre-existing health conditions and any medications you may currently be taking.

Cognitive assessments can include testing short and long-term memory, language and communication skills, and attention span.

“Brain scans are often used for diagnosing dementia once the simpler tests have ruled out other problems,” explained the NHS.
