A gay father and his adopted gay son have captured hearts with their candor after opening up their relationship and sexuality — with the dad even doling out heartfelt sex advice.
Craig and his son Austin asked each other a series of personal questions in the latest video from Cut.com‘s ‘Truth or Drink’ series. As part of the game, they had to take a shot of alcohol if they refused to answer.
The dad couldn’t help but get choked up when asked Austin if he was a good parent, but his son assured him that he is happy and able to be his true self thanks to his upbringing.

Bond: Both the father and his adopted son are gay, and there were plenty of jokes and playful moments during the drinking game
Austin revealed that his biological mother was a drug addict who had never really accepted him, saying he was ‘noticeably gay from a very young age.’ He remembered being about four or five and wanting to play dress up and house.
‘My mom and my biological father were very hateful and kind of like homophobic towards me,’ he shared. ‘So she was like I hate you, but I have to deal with you.’
He was taken away from his biological parents and adopted by Craig and his partner and his when he was 13 years old.
‘When Austin first came to us, it was hard for us to get him to talk about things. It took him almost a year, year and a half before he would even talk to us,’ the dad shared. ‘He watched us, he started to trust us, and then he started blooming into this beautiful, amazing, artistic, creature.’
The discussion was a mix of both funny and heartfelt moments that highlighted their strong father-son bond.
Craig revealed that Rob Lowe was his first guy crush thanks to the actor’s underwear scene in the 1986 film About Last Night, which got a laugh out of his son.
Austin was as equally candid, telling his dad that he’s had sex with a guy who was in his 50s, prompting Craig to jokingly ask: ‘Was that for money?’
Hard childhood: Austin shared that he was ‘noticeably gay from a very young age,’ recalling how his mother was a drug addict and his biological parents were homophobic
Nope: Austin refused to talk to his father about sex positions, and they took a shot instead. Craig later told his son that sex is one of the most ‘beautiful things two people can ever share’
‘Shut up,’ Austin responded in mock outrage, adding: ‘You know, I’m gonna tell you what, 50-year-old on the West Coast really know how to preserve themselves.’
They also had fun asking each other the ‘queerest’ things they do. While Austin shared that Craig used to be a ‘very well-known drag queen,’ Craig responded: ‘Um, besides your butt flaps on Instagram?’
Jokes aside, the father told his son that he doesn’t think of him ‘in those terms,’ explaining: ‘I think of you as my kid who’s out there living his life.’
Austin refused to talk to his father about sex positions, and they agreed to take a shot instead, but Craig did have some sex advice to offer his son.
‘Enjoy it. It’s not bad,’ he said. ‘It’s one of the most potent and beautiful things two people can ever share.’
‘Well, sometimes it’s more than two,’ Austin interjected, leaving his dad speechless.

The discussion became more serious when they opened up about their experiences as gay men and times when they have to ‘hide their queerness.’
Emotional: The dad started to cry as he asked Austin if he was a good parent, but his son assured him that he is happy and able to be his true self thanks to his upbringing
Aww: ‘As of right now, where I’m at in m life, I’ve never been more happy and more comfortable in my own skin,’ Austin told his dad
Craig said he is from an area where same-sex relationships aren’t accepted, and Austin admitted to fearing for his safety.
‘If I was in a relationship with somebody and holding their hands, I am actually putting my life at risk,’ he said. When I was in high school, I used to receive death threats.’
He recalled being at McDonald’s when he was 18 or 19 and having a man who was in his 50s or 60s throw food at him and tell him gay people should be killed.
‘Not everyone’s like that, but it’s not as safe to be that degree of myself,’ he explained. Craig looked visibly pained as he heard his son’s story.
‘I don’t want Austin to feel unsafe anywhere. When you hear your son or your kid say they feel unsafe, that’s a trigger,’ the dad said. ‘Are we going to carry on a conversation about what he’s experienced and what I can do to make him feel comfortable? Absolutely.’
Craig admitted that he worries about Austin’s safety ‘all the time.’
‘There are mean people in this world, and if you ever come across a harsh, ignorant person, years of dedication in a relationship between us both could be snatched out of our lives,’ he said. ‘I don’t know what my world would be like without the thought of you.’

Towards the end of the video, Craig opened up about what ‘queer liberation’ means to him, saying: ‘Get rid of queer. Get rid of identifying yourself with a sexuality. That is about ten, five percent of who you are.’
For their last question, Craig started to cry as he asked his son if he was a good parent and what he could have done differently.
‘No parent is perfect, whether you’re gay, straight,’ Austin said. ‘I’m happy for everything you’ve done for me and I would never change anything about that.
‘As of right now, where I’m at in m life, I’ve never been more happy and more comfortable in my own skin,’ he added. ‘I’ve always been able to be myself as the result of y’alls upbringing. I’m very grateful for everything you have done and I love you very much’
‘I love you too,’ Craig replied. ‘I don’t know why that was so hard.’
