The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian American television series set during the Second American Civil War. The Republic of Gilead, a totalitarian regime, has toppled the US government and enslaved its fertile women, known as Handmaids, to child-bearing enslavement. The series, like its predecessors, examines the issues of oppressed women in patriarchal settings and their quest for freedom from enslavement. Gladys Wheeler, a wealthy Canadian who idolizes Serena and is a major factor behind Gilead’s growth in Toronto, will be played by Angelson. Who is Genevieve Angelson or Gladys Wheeler from The Handmaid’s Tale season 5?
Genevieve Rose Angelson is a well-known American actress who has been on episodes such as The Afterparty, Good Girls Revolt, and Flack. Angelson was born in New York City to businessman and lawyer Mark Angelson and his wife Lynn. Caitlin Hobart joined the cast of the Showtime series House of Lies in 2013. Angelson took over as Det. Nicole Gravely in Backstrom in 2014, replacing Mammie Gummer. She appeared in the Amazon original series Good Girls Revolt in 2016, which was canceled after one season.
Angelson also appeared in the DC Comics program Titans. Her other significant works include two episodes of the television series This Is Us. Aside from television and movies, Angelson has been in Broadway shows such as the Tony Award-winning Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. In the forthcoming season of the award-winning series, Angelson will play the pro-Serena Mrs. Gladys Wheeler.
Despite her character’s affinity for the series’ adversary, Angelson told TV Line that Gladys Wheeler is not a “evil man.”

“I couldn’t say, ‘I’m playing a horrible man,’ because I was playing Mrs. Wheeler. ‘I’m portraying someone who is prepared to do everything to save the human race, and that’s what we’re up against,’ I had to explain. So, do I really want to be the person I am? Perhaps not. But I accept it as my reality, and that is what I am doing. That’s how I got away with it.”
