For a person battling with high blood pressure, walking may hold the key to help with the condition and improve your heart.
This is the message from researchers at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Researchers cited a Korean study which indicated that by walking for just 40 minutes a day helped lower blood pressure in people with hypertension.
A US study also suggests that walking offers many cardiovascular benefits for those with high blood pressure and are obese.
In the Korean study, 23 men with high blood pressure were analysed.
The researchers measured the men’s blood pressure following a 40-minte brisk walking session and four 10-minute brisk walking bouts.

It was noted after the walk, blood pressure dropped about five points and three points after the four 10-minute walk.
Lead author of the study Dr Saejong Park said: “We think the benefits of walking will also be sustained over time if the men keep exercising and these findings suggest that even those with busy schedules can include walking into their daily lives and will reap the same health benefits.”

“A review of the exercise recommendations for hypertension noted that exercise had as much effect on blood pressure as many medications.

“It’s great to have a continuous exercise session of 30 minutes or more most days of the week.”
