Vacationing during 2020 may seem like an impossibility, but it is still possible for you and your family to go and visit others even during COVID-19. The important thing is to take cautious measures and be careful. Here are three tips to do just that.

Avoid Packs of Tourists

Large groups of people are a dangerous zone during COVID-19 as the bigger the crowd, the more likely you may come across someone who is carrying COVID-19. Because some people may be asymptomatic and not show any of the symptoms of the virus, it is important to be cautious especially around large groups of people. Instead of going to tourist attractions that are packed and super busy, go to more out-of-the-way places. These places allow you to still see some of the sights of the city but avoid all of the large groups.

Ask Your Host What Measures They’re Taking

If you’re staying at a rental property, communicate with your host about what measures they are taking to slow the spread. If they own multiple rooms for a bed and breakfast, for example, do they allow you to eat in your room so as to avoid meeting other people? How well do they clean between reservations? It can take up to two hours to sufficiently sanitize a house. While your host may not be able to make their home “coronavirus free”, they should take steps to keep their house as sanitized as possible.

Take Preventive Measures

As you travel, do your part to stay safe. If you feel sick at all, stay home. You don’t want to spread the virus to anyone else. Before you leave for your trip, get a COVID-19 test. You may have the virus and not realize it because you’re asymptomatic. When you come home from your trip, get a COVID-19 test just to be safe. Wherever you go, bring a few face masks with you. You will likely need to wear them when you go out in public, and it is a courtesy to others for you to wear a mask. You should also wash your hands frequently and bring hand sanitizer.

If you do decide to travel during COVID-19, it is important to take precautions to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. Avoiding large crowds, and taking preventive measures will help mitigate the risk, but it will not eliminate it. Above all, be cautious when you travel.
