After having two difficult pregnancies, Adeeti Patel put on a lot of weight. She explained: “I would look at myself and think ‘I look so fat, I have a double chin’ and I would dress in black to try and hide my rolls.”

Adeeti recalled her life before losing weight: ”I was eating more than 3,000 calories a day. A typical day included sweets, rice, potatoes, a full Asian meal for dinner every evening and then finishing off my kid’s leftovers. I used to think, who cares, it’s a mum’s life, I had accepted this was me now so I didn’t want to moan about it.

”I began feeling ill. I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I was always dizzy and constantly had a headache.

“I was on the brink of diabetes and I would have to start taking medication if I didn’t lose weight immediately,” she said.

”I knew my eating had got out of control but I didn’t imagine in my wildest dreams I would be at risk of getting diabetes at such a young age. I had a young family and everything to live for, so I knew something had to change.

”I ended up with hundreds of Google pages open on how to lose weight, best ways to lose weight, weekly diet plans and recipes to help lose weight. I tried everything but the weight loss was slow. I’d lose some, gain some and it felt like I kept getting stuck in the same place,” she admitted.

Adeeti then found the 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan and her consultant Deborah suggested a personalised plan to fit her lifestyle.

She explained she had never actually tried a proper diet before and “was itching to start losing weight for good”.

“I wanted to be able to walk around in a dress and look good in what I was wearing. I wanted to throw away all my baggy clothes,” she said.

The slimmer explained that ”standing on the scales” at the consultation and seeing “I was the biggest I had ever been at 14-and-a-half stone was devastating”.

“I was dreading day one of the diet. I had so many thoughts running through my head in the first week and was afraid it wouldn’t work for me.

“That’s where Deborah really helped, messaging me daily with motivation and I began to believe I could do this,” she added.

A week after starting, Adeeti lost eight pounds: “I was over the moon; I really couldn’t believe it. I felt so much happier and began to really believe that the diet was going to work for me.

”It really motivated me to stick to it and I kept pushing myself until I had lost three stone. I began to receive compliment after compliment. I was on such a high and couldn’t have been happier.”

Five stone lighter in just a few months later, Adeeti’s life has completely changed and the first thing she did is go shopping and buy an outfit to attend her brother’s wedding, and she finally found the perfect dress she “could fit into”.

The slimmer said: ”During my follow up appointment with my GP a few months later, I showed no signs of diabetes. I was ecstatic and called Deborah to share the good news – we were both jumping for joy.

“My happiness was hers and that made all the difference along this journey. I was finally back in control.

”I had my brother’s wedding. Traditionally Asian women are petite, so the trendy outfits never used to fit me. This time I was able to fit into a beautiful traditional outfit with a top that showed my tummy and I felt so confident in myself.

”On holiday I was able to wear shorts and cute dresses. I felt proud about what I had achieved and I couldn’t dream of letting myself get back to the 14 stone that I had been previously.”

She added she has never felt “so confident and so happy”. Every day is another chance to “get stronger, eat better, live healthier and be the best version of yourself” for her.

“I am so grateful for the opportunities The 1:1 Diet has given me and the chance to take back control and be my best self again,” Adeeti said.
