Indiana man, 33, is charged with rape of university sorority girl, 20, after ‘plying her with cannabis and alcohol’ before she died at his parents’ house

A Bloomington, Indiana man has been arrested and charged with the rape of an intoxicated University of Indian sorority sister who later died, authorities said.
Eric Montgomery, 33, who Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said has a ‘violent and extensive criminal history,’ was charged Tuesday with rape and furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Authorities said that Montgomery called police shortly before 10 a.m. on August 17 and summoned them to his parents’ home where 20-year-old Zeta Tau Alpha sister Avery McMillan, 20, was found unconscious and unresponsive.
Sheriff’s deputies gave her three cans of Narcan, which is supposed to reverse the effects of opioids, but she did not respond. Authorities have not said that they found any drugs on McMillan or Montgomery.

McMillan’s roommate told police that the two college women when to a house party the night before where McMillan drank too much alcohol.
After they left the party, the dead woman became ‘frazzled and aggressive,’ according to WISHTV News.
McMillan bolted from the roommate’s car, leaving her wallet, keys and identification.
Video surveillance recorded in the early morning hours of her death show her kicking and punching the door to her apartment building and slapping the elevator buttons of the building elevator, the news channel reported.

She goes into the parking garage and several minutes later her car emerged.
Montgomery told police that he had sex with McMillan in the parking garage where the to drank alcohol and smoked pot, according to WISHTV News.
He told police that he had provided her with the alcohol.
News of McMillan’s death stunned her sorority sisters.
‘Very sad for our ZTA sister Avery,’ Dinah Smith wrote on Facebook. ‘RIP beautiful young lady. Sending prayers and comfort to her family and friends.’
McMillan had been a cheerleader and those who knew her recalled her enthusiasm and the effort she put into friendships.
‘Avery was intentional about building relationships’ Zeta Tau Alpha chapter president Ella Gebke said. ‘She went out of her way to be an involved and present member of the chapter, making an effort to know everyone.’
She was also remembered as a cutup around the college who cared about people.
‘Avery was so funny and always the first to give a big hug. She remembered the details of your life and would ask how things were going,’ sorority sister Megan Dunbar remembered.
