The New Coach of the Chicago Sky

Teresa Weatherspoon is getting closer to signing a deal with the Chicago Sky to become their new head coach, according to sources. Since James Wade’s midseason resignation to become an assistant coach in the NBA, the Sky have been seeking for a new head coach. James Wade has been with the franchise for five seasons, leading them to their first WNBA title in 2021.

The organization made it plain after the season that interim head coach Emre Vatansever would not be returning as head coach. Weatherspoon will take over a squad that is equipped to compete in the future. Three-time All-Star Kahleah Copper just inked a two-year deal, and the Sky also added talented rookie sharpshooter Marina Mabrey in the previous offseason. Weatherspoon spent four years as an assistant coach with the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans before her potential job with the Chicago Sky. She previously served as the head coach of the Westchester Phantoms (2007-2008) and as the assistant head coach at Louisiana Tech for the 2008-09 season, finally becoming the head coach from 2009 until 2014.
