Issa Pointer had an early interest in music since she grew up in a musical home. Pointer grew up with the help of her mother and relatives. During the 1985 tour of the singing group The Pointer Sisters, she first became involved in music. She later worked on various tracks with the band for multiple albums. In 2002, Issa took over for group founder June, who had quit due to drug issues and eventually became ill. After two years, she took over as her aunt’s permanent replacement. June, her aunt, died of lung cancer in 2006.
This vocalist together with her mother and aunt Anita, the Pointers experienced a successful resurgence in Europe with their duet hit with Natalia Druyts on a rendition of ‘Sisters Are Doin’It for Themselves’. This song peaked at number two on the Belgian charts. At the age of 12, she made her music debut on an album called Right Rhythm. Issa and her mother did a French rap to the song “Billy Said Yes.” ‘Only Sisters Can Do That’ is her second Pointer Sisters album.
