Career

Jacob Markstrom started his hockey career with the minor club Brynäs IF. He signed a two-year deal with Brynäs IF Senior squad on May 12, 2008. During that period, he excelled in the Swedish Hockey League, and World Junior competitions, and even represented Sweden at the Under 18 level. The following month, he was drafted by the Florida Panthers for the 2008 NHL season. In addition, he became the Panthers’ youngest goalkeeper ever.

He also played for the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans. He hurt his knee during his first season in the AHL. Markstrom returned to South Florida following the procedure. He won his first NHL game on October 22, 2011, when he appeared in the third period against the New York Islanders and made 18 saves on 18 shots.
