The Speaker of Uganda’s 11th Parliament is Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah. He is a Ugandan politician, lawyer, and agricultural economist (2021 – 2026).
He was elected to the office on May 24, 2021, after defeating outgoing Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga. He served as the Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s parliament from May 2011 until May 2021.
Oulanyah is a member of parliament in Uganda’s Northern Region, representing the Omoro County constituency, Omoro District, Acholi sub-region.

After being dismissed from Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he had been treated, Oulanyah was flown out of the country in the early hours of Thursday, February 3.

On December 21, 2021, the speaker was last seen in parliament. Oulanyah vanished from the public eye for a month after presiding over parliament for the reading of the 2021/2022 financial year budget at Kololo Independence grounds last year, shortly after his swearing-in as speaker.

Jacob Oulanyah has been hospitalized in a hospital in Seattle after suffering a serious illness. However, details of his illness have not been disclosed to the general public.
Since the beginning of the session in May, his deputy Anita Among has been in charge of the majority of legislative business, causing concern about his health. Initially, it was reported that Oulannyah was battling COVID-19.

Another source claimed the speaker has been “visibly weak,” but he was unsure of the medical ailment that has kept him out of office for several months.

Jacob Oulanyah does have a Wikipedia page where his biography is available. He was born on March 23, 1965, in the then-Gulu District, to Nathan L’okori and Karen Atwon.
He attended St. Joseph’s College Layibi, Dr. Obote College Boroboro, and Kololo Senior Secondary School for his O-Level and A-Level studies. He enrolled in Makerere University, the East African Community’s oldest university, in 1988 to study agricultural economics.

Jacob earned a Bachelor of Arts in that subject in 1991. He earned a postgraduate diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre (LDC) in 1995.

Jacob Oulanyah does not have a wife and is currently single. He was previously married to Lady Winnie Amoo Okot, but the pair got divorced in 2016.
They have two children together, who live with their mother in San Diego, California, after losing custody of the children due to the divorce.
