Working long hours as a chef, it’s easy to imagine how James Martin would opt for convenience when it came to eating.

Over time, as it would with anybody, not eating the right things can lead to unintentional weight gain.

Back in 2005, James Martin starred in Strictly Come Dancing where a rigorous training schedule and a change to his eating habits resulted in dramatic weight loss.

It has, however, been nearly 20 years since James Martin dropped down from 17st to 14st, totalling a total weight loss of three stone.

James has managed to keep his weight off by seemingly sticking to a healthier diet plan.

“I no longer stuff my face with really bad things,” James said, adding that he says no to “takeaway pizza”, but that’s not the only thing he refrains from eating.

James added that he doesn’t indulge ins “Mars bars and fizzy soft drinks” that can be full of calories.

He admitted he would have “tons” of takeaway pizzas, Mars bars and fizzy soft drinks during a working day, “just like almost every other chef in the country”, he previously told The Herald.

James noted: “We might admire the Mediterranean diet but we don’t eat the way the French, Spanish or Italians eat.”

The Mediterranean diet is the optimum diet to follow if you want to lead a healthy lifestyle.

The NHS Department of Nutrition and Dietetics confirmed that the Mediterranean diet can aid with weight loss.

What is part of a Mediterranean diet?

“A Mediterranean diet focuses on plant foods like fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, nuts, seeds, and pulses, like, beans, chickpeas and lentils,” the NHS clarified.

“The diet includes moderate amounts of lean proteins like fish and chicken and low-fat dairy foods. Olive oil is used to replace other oils and fats in the diet.”

How does the Mediterranean diet aid weight loss?

By eating more plant foods, which are naturally lower in calories, you can lose weight.

Plant foods are also filling, due to their fibre content, so you are less likely to seek out more food to fill you up.

Be aware that Mediterranean diets usually have a lot more fibre than

you may be used to eating, so it’s advisable to slowly increase the amount of healthy foods you eat over several weeks to avoid gas and bloating.

A Mediterranean diet is best paired with drinking at least eight cups of fluids per day, including water, and tea without sugar.
