Jane McDonald, TV presenter on channel 5’s Cruising With Jane McDonald, wowed fans with her impressive four stone weight loss following a stint on a reality TV show.

When she was 58, Jane participated in ITV’s Sugar Free Farm back in 2017 – a reality show where celebrities attempt to eliminate sugar from their diets and improve their eating habits.

Jane started making minor adjustments to her diet. However, it was the elimination of one specific food group that accelerated her weight loss journey.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Jane revealed how she managed to shed four stone by eliminating white carbs such as white flour and pasta from her diet. She also shared that she is now selective about the carbohydrates she consumes.

While participating in the ITV series, Jane met Angelique Panagos, the resident nutritionist at the farm. Angelique provided Jane with a game-changing recipe that perfectly satisfies her cravings when she wants something stodgy.

Jane said: “The only bread I eat is one that I’ve got a recipe for from Angelique. It’s got no yeast in it and it’s made with lots of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, wholemeal flour, oats and yogurt of all things.”

The trained opera singer added: “It’s literally 20 minutes and it’s made ready to put in the oven. I don’t eat a lot of it but when I’m really craving a bit of starch I just get some out of the freezer and stick it in the toaster and it’s done.”

Jane confessed to previously having an unhealthy diet, saying: “I used to eat so much rubbish. I didn’t realise how much rubbish I used to eat.

“I’ve always loved a pie and I was very carbohydrate-led as I was always hungry.” She admitted to overeating and not understanding the impact of poor food choices on her body, stating: “I ate far too much and all the wrong things.”

When Jane wasn’t eating as healthy as she could have been, she revealed how the poor diet impacted her day-to-day life.

“I was beginning to get quite tired and I was blaming it on age,” Jane said, soon realising that a healthier diet gave her much more energy.

Jane said: “I thought it’s just normal to have a big waist and a spare tyre because of my age.” Then she met Angelique, who said she’d “get a lot more energy” when she changed her diet.

“I looked at her with that ‘whatever’ look,” Jane admitted. “But within two weeks I’d lost about 9lbs and I didn’t feel hungry. I always used to be hungry and was always snacking on something, but I don’t have any of that now.”

Jane attributes her success to a change in mindset, saying: “It’s because of a change in my mindset. I used to live to eat, but now I eat to live.”
