During her participation in the show Sugar Free Farm in 2015, Jane McDonald met nutritionist Angelique Panagos, who crafted a tailored diet plan for her.
This personalised meal plan helped Jane shed an impressive four stone within just a few months.
She was required to eliminate bread from her diet entirely, except for “one type”.
Jane revealed that the nutritionist provided her with a special bread recipe, which she now prepares at home and considers the “only bread I eat”.
“It’s got no yeast in it and it’s made with lots of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, wholemeal flour, oats and yoghurt of all things,” Jane continued.
The bread can be prepared in “literally 20 minutes,” and although some nutritionists recommend avoiding bread while on a calorie deficit, this variety stands out for its health benefits. It’s particularly nutritious because it’s made without yeast.
According to experts at Foodly, “eating most types of bread creates more sugar in your body as the bread is broken down into carbohydrates and simple sugars”.
However, when “there is no yeast, you avoid the sugar issues” making it the best option for weight loss.
Jane previously confessed that she had struggled with cravings for sugary foods and wine for years. Through a complete diet overhaul on the show, she transformed her body from a UK size 14 to a size eight, and she has maintained these new habits in the years since.
Jane attributed much of her success to cutting out white carbohydrates such as white flour and pasta and opting for healthier options.
Her sustained progress, however, is down to a clearcut mindset about healthy eating, said Jane.
Reflecting on her Sugar-Free Farm journey, she revealed: “I always used to be hungry and was always snacking on something, but I don’t have any of that now.
“It’s because of a change in my mindset. I used to live to eat, but now I eat to live.”
