The car fanatic has recently tried his hand at farming for his new Amazon Prime show Clarkson’s Farm. Amongst his successes and failures trying to run Diddly Squat Farm in Oxford. Yet the arduous nature of running a farm as well as the star being 61 years old has left him with worries that he might not be able to continue much longer.

Writing in his column for The Sun he addressed his many ailments: “My knees give me no confidence when I’m coming down a flight of stairs.

“My back locks solid if I attempt to walk up a hill.

“My lungs feel as if they’re on fire if I even look at a bicycle, and when I go for a swim it feels as though I have a small car on my back.”

The list of problems the star is suffering with might seem like generic deteriorations that occur when individuals get older, but for Jeremy he has lost all hope that things will get any better.

He continued to say: “And things aren’t going to get any better, because soon there will be lumps and gristle and hip operations that will force me to spend what time I have left in a rocking chair, trying to finish an interesting story in the Reader’s Digest about azaleas.

“It saddens me to think that I have now dived off a boat for the very last time, and been down my last black run.

“I may never see the dawn again, either, unless I have to get up early for another annoying stagger to the loo.”

As a regular reader of The Times’ obituaries section, the star noticed that most of the people who had died were 15 years older than him.

In response he said: “This means I have 15 years left, and that’s plenty,” he claimed, as he went on to list things he could do to keep him busy.

Describing the bleak outlook for his health Jeremy remains characteristically funny and brutally blunt. Responding to the possibility of him trying to write fiction he said: “But what’s the point of starting one now?

“I’ll only get arthritis halfway through and be unable to type.

“And then, when I’m sent on the promotional tour, I’ll stand there like Joe Biden running all my words into one and forgetting everyone’s name.”

Previously the presenter revealed that lockdown left him drinking himself “silly” which has subsequently led him to be the “unfittest” he has ever been.

A previous health battle with pneumonia in 2017 has also left the presenter with long-term problems.

Pneumonia is a serious condition that causes swelling of the tissue in one or both lungs.

Pneumonia can range in seriousness from mild to life-threatening. It is most serious for infants and young children, people older than age 65, and people with health problems or weakened immune systems.

Depending on the severity of the condition symptoms may differ. Mild signs and symptoms are often similar to those of a cold or flu but last much longer.

The Mayo Clinic provides this list of symptoms:

  • Chest pain when you breathe or cough
  • Confusion or changes in mental awareness (in adults age 65 and older)
  • Cough, which may produce phlegm
  • Fatigue
  • Fever, sweating and shaking chills
  • Lower than normal body temperature (in adults older than age 65 and people with weak immune systems)
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
  • Shortness of breath.

The condition is most commonly caused by bacterial infection, particularly viral infections such as coronavirus.

It is crucial to seek medical advice if you have a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell. In addition if you notice a rash, breathing struggles or feeling drowsy it is also important to go to A&E immediately.
