  4. Her parents separated when she was 14 years old and she moved with her mother to Ladbroke Grove.
  5. Joy Crookes taught herself how to play guitar, piano, and bass during her teenage years and later started writing her own music.
  6. She caught the attention of her future manager after uploading a cover of Hit the Road Jack by Ray Charles on YouTube in 2013, at the age of 14. The video attracted more than 600,000 views and was also viewed by her future manager a few months later.
  7. Joy was nominated at the 2020 Brit Awards in the “Rising Star” category.
  8. Her father exposed her to a large variety of music and she once told BBC that “My dad wanted to give me a real education. From Nick Cave to King Tubby to all this Pakistani music. He’d say, ‘This is from your ends of the world, you should hear this.’”
  9. On October 15, 2021, Joy Crookes released her debut studio album Skin via Insanity Records and Alim Kheraj of The Guardian described the record as “vibrant, urgent and brimming with life”, and wrote that “if the point of a debut album is getting to know an artist, then Skin is a masterclass.”
  10. Her song Feet Don’t Fail Me Now won the UK Music Video Awards for “Best Wardrobe Styling in a Video” and “Best Hair & Makeup in a Video” in 2021.
