Joe Biden ducked out of dealing with the allies regarding Russia and they sent Kamala Harris to Poland instead.
But I’m not sure that was any better because we’ve already seen how badly Harris handles such things.
On Thursday, Harris and Polish President Andrzej Duda held a press conference dealing with a variety of issues, including the question of the Polish MIG-29 fighter jets that Poland wanted to give to Ukraine to help in defense against the Russian invasion, as well as the issue of Ukrainian refugees.
As we noted on Wednesday, the Biden team has had massive public confusion over the jets — with Secretary of State Antony Blinken greenlighting the plan, then the Pentagon’s spokesperson John Kirby saying it was not “tenable.” Then White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said they were still discussing it and it would be addressed by Harris in Poland. Then the Pentagon said again that the deal was dead. It was embarrassing, made us look silly, and still left the Ukrainians hanging out to dry. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was exasperated by the incident, criticizing Western leaders (likely a jab at Biden) for not having the courage to act.
But Harris’ remarks during the press conference didn’t provide any greater assurance. When asked what the U.S. was going to do to help the situation regarding the refugees, Kamala Harris made a weird remark about “A friend in need is a friend indeed,” and then just started cackling her head off.

Things that you shouldn’t be broadly smiling and laughing about? One of them surely is millions of refugees fleeing for their lives from war. She then threw the question back to Duda to answer. So much for a competent, serious response.
When asked about the planes, Harris ducked the question.

‘I want to be very clear, the United States and Poland are united in what we have done and are prepared to do to help Ukraine and the people of Ukraine. Full stop,’ Harris said when she was asked about the lack of movement on a fighter jet deal.
‘In terms of the work the United States has done so far, we have, as you know, given military, humanitarian and security assistance, and that is an ongoing process,’ the vice president continued without addressing the defunct plan to send war planes to Ukraine.
But then she went into full-blown Billy Madison territory. We’ve talked before about her word salads and she was at it again. She even got confused as to which “flank” they were on.

She went into another word salad when asked about whether there should be an investigation into possible war crimes by Russia.

Grabien’s Tom Elliott has it right. We’re not sending our best. Unfortunately, it’s making us look bad before the world and leading to very bad decisions.
