Police have not yet identified a motive for the shooting, but they believe it was premeditated, and that he had been planning it for weeks.
Kamala Harris made an unannounced visit to Highland Park, just one day after the shooting. But she immediately used the occasion to go political and rail against “assault weapons.” Does she even know what “assault weapons” are? Or is that like the definition of what is a woman — where it’s whatever they say it is, depending on the present narrative? Harris then served up another word salad about taking “this stuff seriously.”
Vice President Kamala Harris just spoke at the scene of the Highland Park mass shooting.
“We have to take this stuff seriously, as seriously as you are because you have been forced to take this seriously,” she said. pic.twitter.com/vpLSydpJM0

“We’ve got to be smarter as a country in terms of who has access to what — and in particular assault weapons,” Harris said. “We have to take this stuff seriously, as seriously as you are, because you have been forced to take it seriously. The whole nation should understand and have a level of empathy to understand that this can happen anywhere, in any peace-loving community. And we should stand together and speak out about why it’s got to stop.”
That was her public comment? I think she wanted people to think they were taking this “seriously.” She said it enough times. But I can’t imagine that was particularly inspiring. Let’s hope she said things to the first responders she was supposed to meet with that were better than that — because that was seriously lacking. If this was supposed to show empathy and warmth, this wasn’t it. We’ll at least note that they showed up here, as opposed to Waukesha, Wisconsin, after the Christmas parade attack. But how does that sound like anything other than an empty platitude?
One thing I’ve noticed is that even the left is throwing her under the bus on Twitter now with remarks like this; it’s not just folks on the right talking about her word salads in reaction to this. A ton of people on the left responded and they have no patience with the incoherence of Biden and Harris, particularly when it involves such an occasion. They felt like she hadn’t even taken the time to get it right or appear to care; she just spouted nonsense.

She looked at a notecard that said ‘Take this seriously and have empathy’ and this was the best human impression that she could come up with. https://t.co/bTebYvCo8m

Unfortunately, both she and Joe Biden have similar problems, and they don’t seem to be getting any better.
