KATY Perry has called the music video for Woman’s World satire but fans claimed the pop singer is backpedaling after the song received backlash.
Last week, the former American Idol judge released the music video for Woman’s World to a mixed reception from fans.
In the comment section of the music video, one fan wrote, “This feels like a parody of feminism gone wrong.”
“This is what a feminist video clip would look like if made by a guy,” commented another.
A third wrote, “This looks like something that would be a satire for feminism in The Boys.”
On Saturday, the pop culture X, formally Twitter, account Pop Craze posted a video of Katy Perry, 39, explaining the satiric meaning behind the Woman’s World video.
In the video, the Roar singer was shown on the Woman’s World music video set surrounded by backup dancers.
She yelled, “Girl boss s**t,” “You can do it,” “You go girl,” and “You were born to shine” before explaining that she and the director were “having a bit of fun” and being very “sarcastic” with the video.
Katy stated, “It’s very slapstick and very on the nose.”
The Queen of Camp and her backup dancers were dressed like sexy construction workers as she revealed, “With this set, it’s like, ‘Ooh we’re not about the male gaze but we really are about the male gaze.’
“And we’re really overplaying it and on the nose.”
In the post’s comment section, one person wrote, “Imagine having to explain your obvious vision to viewers.”
Another commented, “Satiric? She’s reaching for straws after the backlash.”
While the video may not have landed the way Katy had hoped her explanation for the themes was recorded while the video was still in production.
The insults “Cringe” and “Flopped” also marred the comment section of the explainer.
WOMAN’S WORLD
Katy was seen dancing in a revealing outfit while downing a bottle of liquor in her Woman’s World music video.
The video opened with the pop singer sitting on a metal beam alongside female backup dancers.
She had her arm curled to show off her muscles like Rosie The Riveter.
The video then flashed to several other frames, including one of Katy’s breasts being smooshed together.

She was wearing a bejeweled bikini-style top with the American flag printed on it.
The Hot ‘N Cold singer previously donned the piece in promotional photos for the song, posted on the Fourth of July.
Elsewhere in the video, Katy was seen wearing the same top, a tiny pair of shorts, and a tool belt.
Katy held up a drill in the air, pulling the trigger.
The video showed the California native dancing before cutting to a scene of her pouring whiskey directly from the bottle into her mouth.
