After only a few hours of deliberation, a Pueblo County jury convicted Donthe Lucas guilty of first-degree murder in the 2013 death of his girlfriend, Kelsie Schelling. He was accused of the murder of his pregnant 21-year-old girlfriend Kelsie.

Schelling’s body has never been discovered, although she is believed to be dead.  After a 14-day trial, a jury rendered a guilty judgment against Lucas on Monday.

Schelling vanished the day after sending Lucas an ultrasound of their unborn child, according to prosecutors.

On February 4, 2013, she went missing. She went from Denver to Pueblo to meet Lucas at a Walmart after sending Lucas the ultrasound, according to authorities.

Schelling’s car remained parked at the business until the morning of Feb. 6, 2013, when an unidentified guy picked it up and drove away, according to cell phone data.

Schelling vanished without a trace and was never seen or heard from again. Early in February, the trial against Lucas began. No witnesses were called by his defence team.

In August 2018, Lucas pled not guilty to Schelling’s murder. His trial date has been set multiple times before being postponed.

When Lucas’ attorneys indicated they had information on the case during a hearing on Jan. 21, the trial was almost postponed again; however, the defence team made it plain they were moving through with the trial.
