Kiran Nadar is an Indian art collector and philanthropist who is best known as the founder of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, a private modern and contemporary art museum with locations in New Delhi and Noida in the national capital region of India. Established in 2010, it is India’s first private museum and attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually. Kiran is also a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation (established in 1994 by her husband Shiv Nadar), an organization that builds institutions and programs in underdeveloped disciplinary areas in India related to rural and urban education and art. Shiv is the founder and chairman emeritus of HCL Technologies (an Indian multinational information technology services and consulting company) and has been honored with the Padma Bhushan (India’s 3rd-highest civilian honor). In April 2023, Kiran was honored with the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour), France’s 5th-highest civilian award, in recognition of her contribution to the field of art, her philanthropic activities, and her role in fostering Indo-French cultural ties.

- Kiran began her career in the advertising sphere, as a communications and brands professional. She later joined NIIT, an Indian multinational skills and talent development corporation, and is credited with playing a key role in shaping the brand’s image.
- In the late 1980s, she began developing an interest in art collection – while she was purchasing art pieces for her home. By 2005, Kiran had decided that she would establish a museum to exhibit her exhaustive collection.
