Kyle Mayers Facts

  1. Kyle, in the West Indies’ first match of the 2012 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup, against tournament favorites India, had recorded scintillating figures of 2/35 in 10 overs and had scored a vital knock of 43 runs in the chase to help the West Indies win by 4 wickets, a performance for which he was named the ‘Player Of the Match’. West Indies were the only team that would beat India in the tournament as the latter went undefeated in the rest of the tournament to clinch the title.
  2. In the next match, against Papua New Guinea, he had again recorded sensational figures of 3/12. He was the team’s best bowler in their quarter-final match against New Zealand as well (3/42) but could not prevent a 3-wicket defeat.
  3. In January 2020, on the opening day of the 2019–20 edition of the West Indies Championship (the 54th edition of the Regional Four Day Competition, the domestic first-class cricket competition for the countries that form the West Indies), he recorded the first century of his first-class cricket career.
  4. In February 2021, in his debut test match for the West Indies, he had scored 210 runs not out in 310 balls, helping his team overcome a highly improbable target of 395 runs, the then 5th-largest chase in the history of test match cricket, and the highest successful run chase in Asia.
  5. He had also become the 14th batsman for the West Indies to have scored a century on debut in test match cricket. His mammoth, heroic effort had set numerous other records. He had become just the 6th batsman to have scored a double century on his test match debut.
  6. Kyle had also become only the 2nd West Indian cricketer to have scored a double century in the 4th innings of a successful test match chase. His 53% contribution to the team’s total was the 3rd highest contribution by any batsmen in a win chasing a target of 300 runs or more.
  7. In May 2021, he had been awarded his maiden red-ball central contract by Cricket West Indies (CWI), the governing body for cricket in the West Indies (a sporting confederation of over a dozen mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries and dependencies that once formed the British West Indies).
  8. In March 2022, in the 3rd and final test of the West Indies’ bilateral test series against arch-rivals England, he produced a series-defining performance with the ball. The first 2 matches of the series were drawn and the West Indies had taken a vital 93-run lead over England in the first innings of the final test match.
  9. Kyle then recorded sensational figures of 5 wickets for just 18 runs (in 17 overs) to skittle England out for a meager total of 120 runs. West Indies mopped up the paltry target of 28 runs to win the match and consequently the series by a 1-0 margin. This was the maiden 5-wicket haul of his test match career.
