Thanks to some compassionate law enforcement members, a young man with autism is on his way home to Indianapolis after being tragically stranded three states away in Alabama.
23-year-old Willinaus Bolin was on his way to Florida with a group of “friends” when they unexpectedly robbed him of the money he’d earned mowing lawns and pushed him out of the car, leaving him stranded without a phone or any money at a Montgomery gas station.
Officers later discovered the young man and realized he had no one to come pick him up. His father was killed during 9/11, and his mother is diabetic and disabled. Willinaus has no other family who could come and help him. So the police decided to take matters into their own hands and ensure that Willinaus had safe transport home.
Montgomery police officers transported Willinaus to a Waffle House at Vestavia Hills, where he was picked up by the local police department. They tried to get him a bus or plane ticket home but couldn’t find one and instead opted to drive him to Fultondale.
The Fultondale police took the young man to Cullman County, where Deputy Dickerson purchased him something to eat and drink before transporting him to Morgan County.

Sgt. Ferguson with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office drove Willinaus to the Huntsville-Browns Ferry exit on Interstate 65 to meet up with Lt. Flannagan of the Limestone County Sherriff’s Office. Sgt. Ferguson gave Willinaus $20 and wished him well on the rest of his journey.
From Limestone County, further arrangements were made to help Willinaus continue his travels northward through Tennessee and Kentucky and back to Indiana.
“We are happy to play a small part in helping get this young man back home and thankful for the multiple agencies that have and will assist on his journey!” the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
This “chain reaction of kindness” has brought a sense of joy not only to the police officers and deputies involved in the event but also to all the people who have been following the story. And, of course, it has brought security and comfort to Willinaus, who may not otherwise have had any way to get home or anywhere to stay in the meantime.
Thank you to everyone who has gone out of their way to help Willinaus get home to his mother. Your acts of kindness have not gone unnoticed!
