Dame Margaret Beckett’s husband, Leo Beckett, died at 95. He was chairman of her local Constituency Labour Party when they married in 1979.

She has employed him as her office manager with a salary of up to £30,000. He has been helping his wife from shadows, whereas she became the frontbencher.

However, many people criticized the idea of MP’s hiring their family members as they claimed that it promotes nepotism. Besides, the practice has been banned since 2017, but it is not retroactive.

The 42 years of togetherness have made an impression on many people, and it will continue to inspire many couples.
