Lily Allen has spoken about how she struggled to enjoy sex when she was younger, yet found it easy seeking pleasure with substance abuse.

The Not Fair singer, 35, has always been candid about her drink and drug battles and in July she marked one year sober, something she touched on while talking to Megan Barton Hanson on her You Come First podcast.

The singer who recently released her own sex toy, told the Love Island star, 26: ‘I found pleasuring myself really difficult in many areas of my life – bar drugs and alcohol which I find easy – but I find it difficult to find the space and time to connect’.

Lily launched the Womanizer Liberty by Lily Allen Rechargeable Clitoral Stimulator back in October and has since been on a mission to break down the taboos surrounding discussion of sexual pleasure.

In her latest chat, Lily, who wed Stranger Things star David Harbour in Las Vegas in September, spoke to Megan, a former exotic dancer and passionate feminist, about the lack of chat around and education for women.

She admitted that when people ask her for masturbation tips, it is something that is very new to her after spending years not achieving sexual pleasure.

Megan asked: ‘I get asked all the time if I have any tips for solo pleasure. Do you get that?’, to which Lily responded: ‘I found pleasuring myself really difficult in many areas of my life – bar drugs and alcohol which I find easy…

‘But I find it difficult to find the space and time to connect with myself as ultimately I didn’t feel comfortable with myself. I felt very separate from my body so it was difficult to connect. I can give advice to women and girls who feel like I did…

‘All I can say is commit to it. I always thought I don’t deserve this so didn’t think I could reach climax. I told myself I was one of those people who can’t come, because I didn’t commit to it.’

Lily has always been candid about her drink and drug abuse, particularly when she released her memoir My Thoughts Exactly last year.

In 2018, she came under fire for glamourising drug-taking after admitting she snorted a line of ketamine at the Glamour Woman Of The Year Awards in 2008.

Describing what happened, Allen said: ‘Someone gave me a line of what I assumed to be cocaine at the Glamour awards once, but it turned out to be Ketamine. I was thrown out (passed over some railings) of the Glamour awards for being in a k hole.’

She added: ‘Obviously I couldn’t talk, or direct the driver so my assistant instructed the occupant of the car behind to “follow that cab” I believe the occupant was @chattyman , I have no idea what happened next.’

Lily also revealed that her new business venture has not been met with total positivity as people have claimed her husband cannot give her pleasure.

She detailed how she has been treated since releasing her sex toy, as she insisted that solo sex acts ‘intimidate males’ after she opened the conversation around female pleasure.

Lily explained: ‘We didn’t talk about sex in my family it wasn’t forbidden or religious. We weren’t open about these things so I just followed what was on TV and movies You lie down and make funny noises and orgasm’.

‘They talk pregnancy, STIs and periods so my only experience of women’s pleasure was from porn. I wish I knew my own body before having sex’.

In response, Lily said: ‘Having these convos lately amazing comments i get from men and some women saying my husband can’t – its nothing to do with not getting pleasure from another person…

‘Our culture encourages co-dependence sexual pleasure that you’re meant to rely on someone else to sustain you and it makes people uncomfortable.’
