Lorde has revealed each of her albums relate to a different drug she was taking at the time she created them.
The 25-year-old, born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, told the October issue of Vogue that for her first album Pure Heroine it was alcohol, and she was taking MDMA when she wrote her highly acclaimed second album Melodrama.
She smoked a lot of cannabis while making new LP Solar Power, telling The New York Times her latest music is one of her ‘great weed albums’.

When asked if her lyrics and music videos included references to LSD, she revealed she’d actually gone in another direction.
‘Well, I thought I was going to make this big acid record, but I don’t think it was an acid album,’ she said.
‘I had one bad acid experience in this album. And I was like, “Man, it’s a weed album.” It’s one of my great weed albums.’

‘The feeling of writing that, it’s like drugs to me. It’s the reason I make music. There’s no better feeling than pop alchemy building in real time,’ she added.
Lorde’s revelation comes after she attended the opening of the Christian Dior Designer of Dreams Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum on Wednesday.

The LBD comprised a calf-length satin skirt with a belted waist and square neckline, and she accessorised with black pumps and gold earrings.
She added a pop of colour by carrying a mini pink Christian Dior vanity case.
Lorde also posed for photos with Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri.
