Louis Theroux has revealed that his wife Nancy Strang warned him he was drinking ‘quite a lot’ during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The documentary filmmaker, 52, admitted he drinks ‘more than’ he is ‘supposed to’ as he opened up on his alcohol intake while appearing on Thursday’s Loose Women.

He explained that his director wife, who he tied the knot with in 2012, told him he was drinking ‘quite a lot’ during the Covid lockdown and said he has since ‘reined it in’.

‘Like a lot of people, we couldn’t go to stag dos, weddings, parties. All that outlet had to take place in your house,’ he said.

‘On a Friday night, I would crack open the bourbon and then on a Monday and Tuesday. My wife said you seem to be drinking quite a lot and I’d say I’m just relaxing.

‘I’ve reined it in. I drink more than I’m supposed to but you can’t be too hard on yourself with that stuff. You have to keep an eye on it.’

Louis said the pandemic also allowed him to spend more quality time with his wife Nancy and their kids – Frederick, Walter and Albert – and said they got to know each other ‘in a whole new way’.

The podcaster said they started a production company, Mindhouse, directly before the pandemic, which he said was both ‘horrific’ and ‘wonderful’.

He continued: ‘I discovered how much I love my family and my wife in particular.

‘Everyone had a different pandemic and I can only speak for me but we were seeing more of each other than ever before and that involved getting to know my wife in a whole new way.

‘We had started a TV production company together just before lockdown, not ideal timing. It was on one level, horrific, and on another amazing and wonderful.’

Reflecting on how his job has affected his marriage, Louis admitted that his ‘biggest conflict’ is balancing his work commitments with his personal life.

He explained: ‘The biggest conflict in my life is work and life and how that plays out on the domestic front and how it plays out with your relationship with your significant other.

‘I’ve been travelling for 20 years making TV and in lockdown I couldn’t travel more. My wife always said, why can’t you go away less, there must be interesting people to meet in the UK.

‘So I began reporting on the home front, domestic setting, which ended up being about arguments my wife and I were having, the kids.’

Elsewhere on the chat show, Louis spoke about the viral TikTok remix video of Louis rapping ‘My Money Don’t Jiggle, Jiggle, It Folds’, sharing his surprise that the clip became so popular.

He joked that he thought he was going to be a pop star when he was a child until he realised he had ‘no talent’ and described the moment he found out about the TikTok.

He said: ‘My agent called up and said we’ve been in touch with TikTok, you’re going viral in an unprecedented way.

‘When I went past schools dropping my kids off, I’d hear thus murmur, my money don’t jiggle jiggle. Rita Ora did it, Shakira did it, Snoop Dog.

‘The 7-year-old is into it, the middle one, the 14-year-old, not so much. The idea I’m all over his feed doing my cringey dance is obviously not ideal.’
