Mariah, 55, said in a statement to People, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

The Fantast hitmaker revealed she was grateful she was able to spend time with her mom a week before she died and was thankful for the positive messages she has received.

However, Mariah spoke about the difficult relationship she had with Alison, 87, and Patricia, 63, while growing up.

Fans got to learn more about Mariah’s troubled past with her family in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

‘RAINBOW OF EMOTIONS’

When discussing her mom, Mariah wrote, “Ours is a story of betrayal and beauty. Of love and abandonment. Of sacrifice and survival

“Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities.

“I’ve emancipated myself from bondage several times, but there is a cloud of sadness that I suspect will always hang over me, not simply because of my mother but because of our complicated journey together.

“It’s never been only black-and-white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions.

“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment.”

Mariah claimed that she nearly drowned at a beach when she was seven years old but felt neglected by her mom despite her “hysterical crying.”

Despite their past drama, Mariah continued to try and have a relationship with her mom.

During one of Mariah’s Christmas TV specials, she and Patricia sang O Come All Ye Faithful.

Mariah even dedicated part of her book to Patricia.

“My mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”

Mariah Carey’s heartbreaking statement

On August 26, 2024, Mariah Carey revealed to People that her mom Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” she started.

“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”

“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.

NOT NAMING NAMES

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2020, Mariah revealed that she felt like an “ATM machine with a wig” when family members and friends would ask for money.

Mariah admitted that the pressure caused her to have a breakdown and went to receive help at a facility.

She said, “When there are people connected to you as a person that achieves a certain level of success, you are a target — you’re vulnerable.

“But I wouldn’t have gone here if things hadn’t been done to me, if I hadn’t been dragged by certain people and treated as an ATM machine with a wig on.

“It’s like, ‘Let me get some money, and let me get some money no matter what.'”

SIBLING VS SIBLINGS

In her book, she also spoke about the tough relationship she had with siblings Alison and Morgan.

“They have attacked me for decades,” she claimed to Oprah.

When speaking about Alison, Mariah alleged that she “drugged” her with Valium when she was 12 years old.

“[She] offered me a pink nail full of cocaine and inflicted me with third-degree burns and tried to sell me to a pimp.”

Mariah also placed blame on Alison for the “traumatic events” in her life and called her “troubled” and traumatized.”

The Touch My Body singer claimed Morgan was “extremely violent.”

Mariah, who has a white mother and a black father, claimed that the reason for her brother and sister’s treatment was because of her lighter skin color.

“We don’t even know each other. By the time I got into the world they were damaged, in my opinion.

“We’re not even that far apart tonally. They just grew up with the experience of living with a black father and a white mother together as a family, and I was, for the most part, living with my mother, which they saw as easier,” she told Oprah.

In a past interview with Vulture back in August 2020, she spoke about her “ex-brother” and “ex-sister.”

She said, “Here’s the thing: They have been ruthlessly just heartless in terms of dealing with me as a human being for most of my life. I never would have spoken about my family at all had they not done it first.

“I have forgiveness in my heart, and so I forgive them, but I am not trying to invite anybody to come hang out over here. I think they’re very broken, and I feel sad for them.”

THE LAWSUITS

In response to Mariah’s allegations, Alison was the first to sue her sister for $1.25 million back in February 2021.

In court docs obtained by The Sun, she denied Mariah’s various claims including pimping her out and giving her Valium.

Alison also said that she suffered emotional distress and felt “humiliated and embarrassed” by the “outrageous” claims.

One month later, Morgan filed his lawsuit against Mariah for defamation and said he suffered emotional distress.

In court docs, Morgan was looking for unspecified damages as he suffered from “extreme mental anguish” and felt that Mariah’s claims did “serious damage to his reputation.”

As of late, it is unclear how Alison’s lawsuit concluded.

However, Morgan’s lawsuit is still active according to New York Court documents.
