Marlene Rittmanic – Bradley Il Police Shooting Victim

Marlene Rittmanic, 49, was a Bradley Police sergeant killed by Darius Sullivan, 25, and Xandria Harris, 26.

The perpetrators face several felony charges in connection with last week’s hotel shooting, which killed one and critically injured another. Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe is attempting to charge them with federal murder and urging federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty.

The shooting occurred around 9:56 p.m. on December 29, 2021. Officer Tyler Bailey and Rittmanic were responding to a noise complaint about dogs barking in a parked car in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn in the 1500 block of North State Highway 50.

When the officers learned that the car’s owner was Harris, they approached a hotel employee and asked a few questions. They were directed to room 308, which Sullivan had reserved.

The officials repeatedly knocked on the door. After a while, Harris attempts to force her way through the door in order to prevent Sullivan’s capture. Sullivan, wanted on outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court and a former Bradley officers escapee, came around with a drum clip-equipped 9mm handgun while they were asking her to stop the doorway blockage.

During the struggle, the wanted man shot Bailey and the fleeing Rittmanic in the head. He allegedly chased the sergeant down the hallway and pinned her against a door, but he couldn’t fire because he was too busy disarming the officer.

Sullivan then asked Harris to cock the gun, which caused her to join the fray, and as a result, they were able to disarm the official. Despite her pleading for life, he fired two more bullets from Rittmancic’s gun, striking her neck area. He fled the crime scene in a vehicle after the shooting, while Harris fled with her belongings and two children.

The two injured were taken to the hospital, where the sergeant died later. The other, on the other hand, is fighting for his life.

The United States Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force apprehended Sullivan after he walked out of a home in North Manchester around 9 a.m. Harris surrendered to the Bradley Police Department seven hours after her partner was arrested, accompanied by her attorney.
