Meghan Markle qualifies as a celebrity…I guess? To be honest, I didn’t know a thing about her until she began making waves within the Royal Family for just being the worst. Since then, she’s only deepened my dislike of her by constantly demeaning and insulting her own new relations.

The worst, however, is showing up at Uvalde when all the cameras just so happened to be there after that fateful school shooting. It was infuriating to watch her use the death of children as a way to gain some publicity for herself.

It doesn’t help that Markle is your consummate leftist. Whatever the cause celebre is at the moment is exactly what Markle is going to support. Naturally, Markle is a feminist who bangs the drum for all sorts of social justice causes. Like many feminists, Markle has gotten into the habit of criticizing society for its patriarchal tendencies. Also, like feminists tend to do, she’s now placing blame for mistakes she’s made on others.

According to the New York Post, Markle is complaining that when she was on the show “Dead or No Deal,” she was valued for her beauty more than her brain:

The former actress appeared on Season 2 of the show in 2006, and while she acknowledged that she was “grateful” for the job, she felt she was valued for all the wrong reasons.

Markle said she would be on set for the game show and think back to her time as a college intern at the US Embassy in Argentina, where she was “being valued specifically for my brain.”

“Here, I was being valued for something quite the opposite,” she said about “Deal or No Deal.”

“There was a very cookie-cutter idea of precisely what we should look like,” Markle added, sharing that girls would line up at tapings for different stations where they would put on lashes, get extensions put in or get padding in their bras — and they even received spray tan vouchers every week.”

“It was solely about beauty, and not necessarily about brains,” she said.

Well…yeah.

The part she played on the show was one of the women whose job it was to open the briefcase they were standing by. Their whole job was to be beautiful…and open a case. That’s it.

Markle can be angry all she wants but the bottom line is that she literally signed up to do it. She knew what the job was, auditioned for it, signed on the dotted line, and kept doing it for multiple episodes. She has no right to complain about being used for her beauty when the part she agreed to was all about being beautiful.

If Markle was trying to advance the cause of feminism, she failed miserably. An established pattern of feminist regret is trying to make their own decisions seem like machinations of sinister forces, namely the patriarchy. If Markle hadn’t succeeded as an actress she would have said the patriarchy is too sexist and obsessed with looks to consider her for greater roles, but the fact is, she did achieve greater success and she’s still mad.

For feminists, it’s always a “heads I win, tails you lose” kind of game.

Beneath the surface, this feels like a PR move. Markle may have needed to address this part of her past if she was to be a feminist icon. Painting her stint on “Deal or No Deal” as something she was led falsely into absolves her of any wrongdoing and places her focus on looks squarely on someone else.

But at the end of the day, she put on the makeup, the dress, the accessories, and stood next to that case then got paid for it. Like every other feminist, looking back and painting your failures or inconvenient inclusion into something now deemed “sexist” isn’t going to fly. The truth isn’t hard to see. Markle was okay with this until it became risky to be so in our modern culture.
