So what, exactly, adds that spicy kick? According to PopSugar, it’s a combination of Mexican spices and Chamoy sauce.
Chamoy sauce can often be found in Latin grocery stores and ethnic aisles in supermarkets, but it can be made at home using apricot jam, lime juice, and chili peppers.
For dulce enchilados, the Chamoy sauce is mixed with powdered sugar, and whatever candy is being used is then coated in the mixture.
It’s then topped off with Mexican spices like chili powder or Tajín, which is a blend of chili peppers, lime, and salt.
