Dr Michael Mosley is the man behind Fast 800, The New 5:2 diet and The Way of Life diet. He has helped thousands lose weight and keep it off for good. But many people are sceptical about rapid weight loss and whether it works. He addressed this concern in a video posted on The Fast 800 Instagram page.
The question Dr Michael was answering was: “Is rapid weight loss safe?”
The diet expert explained: “We’ve been told over the years, the best way to lose weight is the safe and sustainable way, to do it slowly rather than rapidly.
“There have been numerous studies done, showing rapid weight loss can be a much more effective way to lose and keep off weight in the short, medium and long term.
“What [the studies have shown], is if you do it properly and carefully, then rapid weight loss is much more effective than the slow and steady approach.

“But, it is important that you do it properly and get enough protein…essential nutrients and you’re preserving your muscle mass so when you transition to a slower weight loss stage, you won’t get a rebound,” he added.
In the comments section, several people shared their own weight loss experience having tried one of Dr Michael’s diets.
Denise Kettle commented: “I can recommend Fast 800 100 percent I’ve lost three and a half stone doing this plan. Once you learn the principles you’ve got the tools for life. Big thanks to Fast 800 team.”
When asked by another Instagram user how long it took to lose weight, Denise expanded: “I started the plan for 12wks on the 18th of January at 12st 8lb..I’m now 9st 2lb.

Every day, 800 calories are consumed through a moderately low-carb, Mediterranean-style diet.
The New 5:2 is for “those looking for an effective, gradual way to lose weight and keep it off long-term”.
It is a “highly effective approach to intermittent fasting”, where two days a week you eat 800 calories.
The other five days a week a healthy, lower carb, Mediterranean-style diet is followed with a higher calorie limit.
The Way of Life is for “those looking for long-term maintenance of weight and metabolic health”.
To put it simply, it is following a Mediterranean-style diet every day.
