Dr Michael Mosley often shares his weight loss tips with slimmers online as well as on television. He is the creator of The Fast 800 – a diet plan that helps people lose weight quickly.
Different diets can target different areas of the body, and one specific area that many slimmers wish to target is the stomach.
According to Dr Mosley, “belly fat is the most important fat to target and, yes, it is possible to reduce it”.
It is important because it can cause long term health issues.
Dr Mosley continued: “Even the slimmest of people can suffer with belly fat and, often, the abdomen is one of the most dangerous places to store fat.

“As if this were not bad enough, fat cells deep in your abdomen – also known as ‘visceral fat’ – are reluctant to let go of their energy-stash.
“To find the extra energy needed to fuel a small energy deficit, or a standard gym session, your body will look to other reserves first, like your glutes.
“Fortunately, recent breakthroughs in medical and sports science have shown that it is possible to throw this gradient into reverse.
“You can lose belly fat, and you can lose it fast.”

Dr Mosley went on to explain that the best way to reduce belly fat is to cut out one food type.
He said: “To make a serious impact on your belly fat, cutting out sugar-spikes is key.”
This means cutting down on fruits that contain a lot of sugar, such as pineapple and mango.
Several “diet” snacks and drinks that are high in sugar are also best to be avoided, according to Dr Mosley.
“Likewise, replace processed carbs like white bread, chips and pasta with slow-release energy sources, such as brown rice or quinoa.”
Wholegrains such as the above are digested by the body slower than white carbs, which means they can help slimmers feel fuller for longer, consequently leading to weight loss.
These foods are also a huge part of the Mediterranean diet, which has been hailed as “one of the healthiest diets in the world” by Dr Mosley.
Other foods in the diet include plenty of vegetables, fruits, lentils, legumes, nuts, fatty fish, and full-fat yoghurt, amongst others.
