Who is Kristina Sunshine Jung?

Kristina Sunshine Jung is an entrepreneur and self-proclaimed poet, but also known for being the daughter of notorious drug lord, George Jung. Kristina rose to fame when she starred in the movie “Blow”, which talked about her father’s criminal days as a drug smuggler and addict. Her father was a close associate of Pablo Escobar, who was perhaps the most notorious drug mogul in the late 20th century, head of the Medellin cartel.

Early Life and Family

Kristina was born on 1 August 1978 to Mirtha George Jung – both her parents were drug addicts, and involved in smuggling drugs into the US, so Kristina had a very difficult childhood given her parents’ life choices and careers. George smuggled huge amounts of cocaine into the US, so he was never able to stay away from them, which led to him being arrested multiple times.

Even after getting his first child, George continued with his drug smuggling business and was always in trouble with the law. Her mother was also jailed several times, even after her daughter’s birth, although managing to stop when Kristina was three years old.

In 1984 when Kristina was only six years old, her parents separated and filed for divorce, and Kristina was thus separated from her father as she went to live with Mirtha, so never got a chance to know him well. George was said to be responsible for around 85% of all the drugs that got smuggled into the US in the ‘70s and 80s, and it could be due to such bad reputation that her mother decided to get a divorce.

Kristina was brought up by her grandparents, Fredrick and Ermine Jung, who took her to school and took care of all her needs, however, they passed away when Kristina was still young, and er father’s sister, aunt Marie Jung took care of Kristina until she was 18 years old. There is no information about her education although she isassumed to have matriculated in 1996.

Career

Kristina can be described as neither a model nor an actress., and nor is she a popular celebrity, but gained popularity – or notoriety – due to her relationship with George Jung, who was finally convicted of cocaine smuggling and sentenced to 60 years in prison. Kristina is a self-proclaimed poet and writer, but is yet to publish a book or poem professionally. She is, however, said to be writing a book about her mother which should be out soon.

Kristina made her acting debut in the American crime film “Blow”, directed by Ted Demme, and portraying Kristina’s father during his tenure as a drug lord. The film was released in 2001, with Kristina starring alongside Johnny Depp in a court scene, however, when the movie got to the Warner Bros Company, the government requested that her part to be deleted; those deleted scenes can still be viewed in the movie’s DVD version.

Kristina’s Father and the “Blow” Movie

Her father is also known as “El Americano, Boston George”. He started dealing drugs by taking marijuana and selling some of it to raise money for his upkeep. In 1967 he began smuggling marijuana into New England via the help of his stewardess girlfriend. Later, he made big deals in Mexico, and hired professional pilots to fly in the drugs using stolen airplanes, which often made him around $250,000 per month. Later, he shifted from smuggling cannabis to cocaine, and it was in the ‘70s and ‘80s that he was part of the Medellin Cartel, comprising of some of the most notorious drug smugglers in American history, including Pablo Escobar and Carlos Lehder. George met the latter in prison, from where he was introduced to the cartel; he was eventually sentenced to 60 years in prison in 1994, however, he only served 20 years in jail, being released in 2014 after testifying against Lehder.

In the movie “Blow”, the drug dealer never gets a chance to see his daughter while in prison, however, this is not the case in George and Kristina’s real lives, as he was able to reconcile with his daughter before his release. Kristina visited him several times while he was still in prison. When, father and daughter had a phone chat, and planned to meet each other, a happier ending than the one depicted in the film. The duo now have a business together.
