Biography
Late Safinatu Buhari nee Yusuf (born 11 December 1952 – 14 January 2006) was a renowned Nigerian teacher.
She became famous for being the First Lady of Nigeria from 1983 to 1985.
She was the first wife of President Muhammadu Buhari but divorced in 1988 before she lost her life to a brief illness.

Early Life
Safinatu Buhari was born in Jos, Plateau State, on December 11, 1952, to Alhaji Yusufu Mani and Hajia Hadizatu Mani.
She came from Mani Local Government in Katsina State and belonged to the Fulani ethnicity of Northern Nigeria.
When Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, the then-commissioner for Lagos affairs, appointed her father as his private secretary, her family relocated to Lagos State.
Education
Safinatu Buhari attended her Primary school in Tudun Wada, Jos.
In 1971, she studied in Katsina’s Women Teacher’s Training College and graduated with a Grade 2 Teachers Certificate.

She was educated in Islamic studies and could write in both English and Arabic.

Personal Life
Safinatu Buhari met Muhammadu Buhari when she was 14 years old, and they married when she was 18 years old in 1971.
Zulaihat Buhari (dead), Fatima Buhari, Hadiza Buhari, Safinatu Lami Buhari, and Musa Buhari (deceased) were their five children.
Safinatu Buhari moved to Kaduna with her children after Muhammadu Buhari‘s government was ousted by Ibrahim Babangida.
Her look was both classic and understated. In addition, it depicted her ethnic background. In 1988, they divorced.
Death
Safinatu Buhari died on January 14, 2006, at the age of 53, as a result of diabetes-related complications.
